| Bio: | Personal Info Activities: I love planning conferences. Really I like all of my work at Midwifery Today. We are now publishing books besides Midwifery Today magazine so that has been a fun activity. I travel a lot with Midwifery Today going to conferences. Checking venues, putting on conferences and so on. My husband and I plant a huge garden. I begin in February putting in the early crops. We try to raise as much of our food as possible. Then there is turning all the fruit and produce into meals. Interests: Gardening both food and flowers. I spend a lot of my time in our gardens. Midwifery, birth and everything to do with changing birth practices to make it good for motherbaby and society. I love Christmas. It is such a family time. We decorate the whole house. I collect nativity scenes and love that Jesus came as a baby. Favorite Music: I like oldies best. When we did a conference in Hawaii my sister (she does our Midwifery Today tee shirts) and I found a station that was half oldies and half Hawaiian music. I like Hawaiian music too so that was just the best. I also like Broadway musical and other show tunes. Reggae is also really fun to listen and dance to as well as salsa and Mexican music. I love old spiritual hymns too. It is wonderful the world is so connected so we can enjoy the rich music and food coming out of various cultures. Favorite TV Shows: History and anthropology shows, old movies, new movies "Keith Olberman, " "The Dog Whisperer." A variety of public broadcasting and Link TV shows. Favorite Movies: American Graffiti might be my all time favorite. I also like "Best in Show", "A Mighty Wind", "Oh Brother Where Art Thou." I just watched, "Gone with the Wind." I named my new fish Rhett and Scarlet. There are so many great movies and this looks like a good year for movies. (2008) Favorite Books: The Bible. I love that God speaks to us. I like birth and midwifery books. I read marketing books to keep Midwifery Today alive. "The Red Tent" was great. In college I like reading novels assigned for English class but haven't had much time for them since. I read a fantastic autobiography of Bob Dylan on the way back from the Bahamas or was it the Philadelphia conference? I read all the time but often it is magazines, newspapers and now the internet. I have two shelves of garden books and travel books so they get read and researched in a lot. Favorite Quotes: Love never fails. Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has. Margaret Mead About Me: I have been studying Spanish for about 10 years because I want to be able to talk with the amazing Mexican midwives I have met. In that learning process I started going to a Spanish speaking church. I am generally the only one not from Mexico or Central America and I love this church family. The people are so caring of each other. It reminds me of a small village in Mexico. They share most holidays and are always having activities together. I feel so blessed to be accepted and part of this beautiful family. Our pastor is always available and he and his wife, indeed the whole church family helped me through a tough patch with such care and kindness. I have been married for 40 years and have 3 children. My kids work in my businesses. I also have a lemonade stand at our local Saturday Market. It is a crafts and food fair that is every Saturday from the first one in April until Christmas eve. This is my 35th year doing market. | |||||
